Longines Military Watch

In the late 1930s and early 1940s, Longines was one of the premier Swiss manufactures, creating military and civilian-grade timepieces that were superlative for the era.  The design and implementation of the 13ZN Chronograph in the 1930s was nothing short of a feat of horological engineering that catapulted Longines into the production of some of the world's best chronographs.

During the 1940s, Longines produced a slew of military-grade chronographs and time-only pieces, using their extremely accurate in-house movements to support the war effort.  Coming in a variety of configurations, these war-time watches made their way onto the wrists of all ilks of servicemen.

This particular Longines is a stellar example of an early to mid-1940s time-only officer's watch.  The 31mm steel case with stepped bezel - similar to the well-known Tre-Tacche pieces - houses Longines' workhorse 10L manually-winding movement which beats at a surprising 18000 bph.

The black matte dial with Arabic numerals and running seconds at 6:00 is of classic military design and carries a pleasant honest patina from age and use.  The slim pencil hands are at once elegant and functional, jumping off the matte backdrop for excellent legibility, reminding the wearer of the purpose-driven design that shaped the entire piece.

And with holed lugs (a real treat for the collector who enjoys pairing his/her watch with different strap options) this Longines is a great way to enjoy a little piece of watch history every day.

Overall Condition: The watch is in very good condition over all, with wear marks to the case consistent with age and use.
