Omega "Bumper" Two-Tone

During World War II, Omega shifted their efforts towards producing simple and reliable timepieces at large scale for various militaries. After the war, Omega resumed their production of consumer pieces with a new approach- the new post-war Omegas were notable for their clean, legible dials and stalwart movements, making them a popular choice for a sharp-looking everyday watch.

The post-war years are notable for the introduction of the iconic Seamaster line in 1948, but Omega also built a variety of what they called “Collection” watches. While they often featured the same cases and dials as their Seamaster cousins, these collection watches often featured simpler movements, making them more economically approachable, then and now.

While vintage Omegas have gained in popularity thanks to their affordable prices and classic looks, it has also made finding worthwhile examples a bit more difficult.

This particular piece comes to us from the early 1950’s and features a distinctive “bumper” wind movement. Rather than a full rotor to wind the movement, the Cal. 342 has a smaller, weighted rotor that travels about 270 degrees and has a stopper on each end, giving them a distinctive feeling on the wrist. Sized at a classic 34mm and featuring a steel case, dauphine hands, and a sharp looking gold bezel, this one ticks all of the vintage Omega boxes.
