Hamilton Automatic 10K

Hamilton is a brand that's been experiencing quite a renaissance of late by drawing on its rich history. While modern Hamiltons provide a solid value and a respectable name, there was once a time where having a Hamilton on your wrist was downright enviable.

Hamilton set up shop in Lancaster, PA, turning out their first model 936 pocketwatch in 1893. It didn't take long for Hamilton's accurate, American made timepieces to become the de-facto standard for the rapidly expanding US railroad industry, leading to the tagline the "Watch of Railroad Accuracy."

During their golden era, Hamilton was known for their innovation and quality- they were leading producers of military-grade pieces starting in World War I, build the first electric watch in 1950, and the first micro-rotor automatic in 1954. They had design chops too- Hamilton didn't really do cookie cutter, even hiring legendary designer Richard Airbib to bring his futuristic touch to their line back in the 1950's.

Case in point is this piece from the early 1960's. While not as out there as some of the Airbib designs, it stands out compared to other pieces of the era thanks to its distinctive quadrant dial, fancy lugs, and red-tipped second hand. To top it all off, the 10k rolled-gold plated one-piece case was built in Lancaster, PA, so you can add "American Made" to the list.

If you're looking for a dressy watch with a ton of character, this American-made beauty should be at the top of your list.
