Seiko 6309

Seiko 6309

Seiko took the dive watch market by storm in 1970 with their 6105 series, a piece that was immortalized Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now.  In 1976, Seiko updated their dive watch line with the Reference 6309. Produced for well over a decade, the 6309 has all the hallmarks of a proper tool watch - a chunky stainless steel case, bold broad-arrow hands, a screw down crown, and 150 meters of water resistance.  So strong was the 6309's DNA that Seiko recently reissued the design as the Prospex SRP-77X series.  While a remake is all well and good, there's nothing quite like the real thing.

Despite all of this badassery, the 6309 has not quite reached the popularity or rarity of its older brother and has remained a solid bang-for-the-buck Seiko diver. Genuine, all-original examples are hard to track down thanks to an active aftermarket and many unscrupulous sellers, making finding one in the wild a real treat.

This particular 6309-7049 is an early 80’s model in exceptional original condition. The case shows light, even wear from age and use but retains its crisp bevels and original finish throughout.  The matte black dial is in clean shape and has a light, even patina across the hour markers and hands. The original bezel is easy to grip and turns confidently with a reassuring click.

Simple divers are always a great way to go vintage, and in original condition, this one is an incredible find.
