Seiko Diver Reference 6319

For over 135 years, Seiko has been cranking out innovative and impeccably engineered watches at every price point, from the entry level Seiko 5 to the award-winning Grand Seiko. Underpinning Seiko's efforts has been the production of reliable and accurate movements capable of being paired with an array of case and dial configurations. And it's perhaps in the aforementioned Seiko 5 range that the most dizzying combinations of colors, cases and dials can be found.

Prior to Seiko's participation as Official Timekeeper of the 1964 Summer Olympics, the manufacture launched the Seiko Sportsmatic 5 series, or Seiko 5 for short. The Seiko 5 united five of Seiko's design tenets in an affordable package. They were: high quality mechanical movements, water resistance, day and date functions, a sturdy case, and crown placement at four o'clock.

These five attributes, along with the Seiko 5's modest price point, were a winning combination that still proves popular among both novice watch collectors and experienced collectors who just want a durable, stylish, yet inexpensive watch.

Styles of Seiko 5 encompassed everything from robust time only field watches like the present-day SNK809 to the 70s model featured here.

Powered by the 6319 movement, this diver--a Reference 6319-8070--is notable for its distinctive helmet-shaped case, original steel bracelet, vibrant two-tone blue dial and an usual combination of Arabic and English date wheel. Sturdy and comfortable, this beauty simply oozes 1970s style!
