Vulcain Grand Prix Power Reserve

Vulcain is best known for the Cricket, and we understand why that’s the case. At a time when adding features to a watch was considered a marvel of engineering, it was the world’s first wristwatch with a mechanical alarm, and it could be seen on the wrist of a number of US Presidents, including Truman, Eisenhower, and Nixon, and accompanied Italian explorers to the summit of K2, the world's second highest peak.

While the Cricket looms large in Vuclcain's legacy, the brand dates as far back as the mid 1800's, when the Ditisheim brothers set up shop in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The Cricket was far from a one-off for Vulcain- they had been experimenting with complications from the very beginning, winning awards at several World's Fairs.

After the release of the Cricket, however, Vulcain was really on the map and they grew into a go-to brand for affordable watches with quality components- just the type of brand we love here at 10:25 Vintage.

This is yet another great example of how Vulcain expanded their product line without compromising their quality and style. Featuring a 33.5mm gold plated case with elegant lugs and a clean white dial with applied markers, this 1960's Grand Prix model looks sharp on the wrist. Setting it apart from similar models, it features one of the more obscure (but fun!) complications out there: a power reserve indicator at 12:00, to show the amount of remaining energy in the mainspring, and thus, how long until the watch stops if not wound.

We’re always on the lookout for pieces with that perfect combination of history, looks, and character- it’s pretty hard to beat this piece in any category!
