Wyler Dynawind Diver

Our love of vintage dive watches really knows no bounds here. While our admiration of the big players in vintage divers - Rolex, Doxa, Omega - runs deep, we have a particular affection for the offbeat and unknown brands that often get overlooked.

The truth is, the 60's and 70's were a golden era for tool watches like this, as recreational diving became not only possible, but popular. It was a time of innovation, exploration, and action, and the timepieces of the era were up to the task, with simple, robust designs and workhorse movements.

Wyler is a name that catches little attention in the modern market, but has deep roots dating back to the 1920's. Wyler's claim to fame was their revolutionary "Incaflex" shock protection, released in 1927, predating the popular Incabloc system by a few years. It involves two curved, flexible arms in the balance wheel, which provided greater protection from shocks.

This robustness became Wyler's calling card, and along with their Italian partners, Vetta, they proved the "virtual indestructibility" of Incaflex through highly visible publicity stunts. In one instance, they drove around Milan with watches tied to the back of a car, and in another, threw a pair of watches off of the Eiffel Tower (and later, the Space Needle)- in all instances, the watches kept ticking!

What we have here is a simple automatic diver from the 1960's. Sporting a mid-sized case measuring 35MM, a simple black dial with bold hour markers, and eye-catching handset, it presents a unique take on the vintage diver look. Given Wyler's marketing message, it's no surprise that divers like this one carry the "Heavy Duty" designation on the dial.

If you're looking for a unique diver at a great price, it's hard to beat this Wyler!
